Real Wedding: Kristen + Adam @ Still Waters Vineyard Paso Robles

Super simple vineyard elegance.  Honestly, your wedding day is about the vows, then, having your dearest friends and family there to celebrate with you.  Might sound strange coming from someone who lives to sell you a kazillion blooms and decor elements, and given the chance, we’ll definitely do that, but the bottom line is that if it doesn’t bring ambiance and feeling to the day, it shouldn’t be there.  Kristen completely got that, and from the beginning knew that given a limited decor budget, everything we did, really needed to count.  Along with Mark Padgett Event Design, we set out to bring her vision of simplicity to a heart warming gathering at the beautiful Still Waters Vineyards.

Mark draped and gathered some soft ivory voile simply over our wedding arch and we tucked just a couple decadent white cymbidium orchids into the corners with some lux double satin ribbon to complete the intimate cathedral.  To add a little rustic element, we chose our lanterns from our wrought iron collection, pulled the glass out of them and used them as a fun structural element to house cubes of lush flowers, with little “satelight” cube bouquets towards the ends of the long family style tables set on deep chocolate brown table runners. Mark’s fabulous brown mosaic votive candles completed the tables and brought some glow as the sun went behind the vine covered rolling hills.

The bride & groom opted for a dessert bar instead of a traditional wedding cake, and the guys over at  Two Cooks Catering, heartily obliged with chocolate fondue, profiteroles, chocolate mousse, lemon tarts – ok, I can’t go on, but you get the idea! An authentic Klezmer band played during cocktail hour and into dinner while Kramer Entertainment DJs kept the party moving and everyone on the dance floor after dinner.

Real Wedding: Nicole + Nik @ Dolphin Bay Resort 11.07.09

In my mail box this week – the highly anticipated CD of pics from awesome photographer RCJones.  Loved working on this wedding – this coupled rocks – quite literally!  Nicole is the late night voice and personality plus on Y101 in Fresno, Nik is the creative director at the station.

Unconventional with a vibe of their own that was a wonderful infusion of cool in to the usual flora that we get involved in.  We were so honored to be involved in their beautiful day, hosted at the ultra cool Dolphin Bay Resort in Shell Beach.  And – continuing the fabulous – we got an email from the Father of the Bride the following week telling us that the “flowers were flawless”.  Note from an FOB – that’s a first in 11 years.  Sweet!

Shades of purple, pink and white against platinum.  Romantic blooms including lush English Garden Roses, dahlias, hydrangea, succulents and roses.

Loved working with this bride – her spirit of fun carried through everywhere and the outcome was a wonderfully welcoming wedding set on a beautiful winery.  Silverhorse winery is a stunning setting overlooking rolling hills of vines – very picturesque.

These images just arrived and our thanks to Laura Turner Photography from Ventura for sharing them with us.

Real Wedding: Heather + Nick – 10.10.09 Meridian Vineyard

There simply is nothing like the turning vines of a vineyard and the golden sun to bring on the instinctual need for celebration. There is no better setting in California for a fall wedding than a robust vineyard and on the Central Coast, Meridian is a classic and all artfully captured by Mike Larson at Mike Larson Inc.

Working with Heather and her fabulous mom Karen on this wedding was such a pleasure. Heather’s choices for color and Karen’s penchant for classic elegance were a really beautiful combination set against the setting sun, old California oak trees and acres or rolling vineyards

Bright green, pink and orange blooms vibrated against the elegant black dresses worn by the bridesmaids. Natural elements of manzanita trees with clusters of green flowers framed the bride and groom through the ceremony, while velvety moss balls with clusters of colorful blooms hung on each side of the aisle. Stunning simplicity ruled the reception with several versions of centerpieces. Tall white calla lilies, one of the bride’s favorite flowers were incorporated into tall cylinder vases, bound together with vibrant green wire and surrounded by smaller cylinder vases with floating candles in them. Another version worked three callas around the same tall cylinder vase, grouped with two vases of green hydrangea and more floating candles. The last version brought together a beautiful bouquet of bright mixed blooms and fun greens, again surrounded with candle light. One of my very favorite cakes, designed by Yarrow at the Cakery – black swirls on a classic square stacked cake accented with a profusion of our green cymbidium orchids atop our green silk boxes as a riser.

Real Wedding: Sara + Andrew – 9.12.09 Santa Margarita Ranch

We are so grooving on these pics from Chloe, over at Mike Larson Inc. So many fun things about this wedding that we really loved – Sara, the fabulous bride being a major one. Santa Margarita Ranch has become one of our favorite venues in the last two years – the possibilities for making it truly personal are endless. All ambient lighting (a must at the Ranch) provided by Kramer Entertainment & Lighting

Sara definitely wanted some traditional elements – like soft muted and robust petaled blooms, but she definitely was into giving things a twist to make it her own and we just can’t get enough of that sort of thang! Andrew’s last name is Berry – so we knew that little clusters of blush hued berries were a must. Fluffy little white feathers were added into the bride and groom’s flowers and velvety moss balls with clusters of blooms were incorporated down the the aisle. In an effort to stretch the budget, we reset these elements to as centerpieces on some of the tables in the historic barn, atop large silver cups. Unique and totally fun. The rest of the centerpieces were massed greens and white orchids set in silver candelabras adorned with crystals. This contrast between fun and elegant was a consistent ribbon of style woven through the day and is so reflective of the bride and groom. So hard to tell from these gorgeous photos -but Sara is a dirt bike racing diva in her spare time.
