Real Wedding: Grace + Travis on 5.8.10 @ Meridian Vineyard

Loved meeting Grace and Travis.  Between considering swatches of linen, we chatted about city planning and upcoming projects in Santa Monica as both Grace and Travis work as city planners in the LA area.  I loved that they both had very definite in put on the design elements of their day and approached things with an architectural slant.  We wound up with some really great elements that made their wedding uniquely them, and that’s what I live for!

The centerpieces were simple – but super fun and effective.  Modern pots with a garden of succulents and accented with crushed colored glass.  We used brushed stainless steel pots in groupings to house some color blocked blooms on top of Meridian wine barrels for their “altar” and then reused them individually as special centerpieces for the family tables at the reception.  Fire orange and midnight purple tulips and calla lilies were joined with bright green spring hydrangea and vertical bells of Ireland throughout.  I absolutely loved the effect of color blocking the pots – it was a simple yet highly effective visual display.  Little accents of succulents were incorporated into the little hanging bouquets that flanked the stunning aisle of orange rose petal swirls.  For me this wedding was a prime example that show good design can provide great visual impact, and it doesn’t have to cost a bundle!

The day ran super smooth thanks to the orchestration of Laura’s team at TOS Events and this fantastic images were shot by my dear Chloe Murdoch over at Mike Larson Inc.  Elegant cuisine provided by the Ben & Russ over at Two Cooks Catering and entertainment by AMS DJs.

Alumni: Happy Anniversary Beau & Melissa

Four years ago today, I was driving up the grade (in what I like to refer to as my white chariot full of fleurs) from San Luis Obispo in a torential storm, holding my breath, thinking – “how is this going to work out?!”.  On my way to set up a wedding at Villa Toscana for Beau and Melissa’s big day.

Fortunately, Beau and Melissa hired an excellent coordinator to ensure that their day ran smoothly, and that person, Tina Hoppe the event coordinator at Edna Valley Vineyard had a rain plan.  She canopied the whole lawn in front of the grand staircase – and just as the ceremony was about to begin – the clouds parted, the sun came out and … stunning day!  But you know that if the canopy was not in place – it definitely would have kept on a rainin’!

I loved working with Missy on her flowers – she came to me with an idea and let me run with it (dream bride really!) and I had fun with the color.  I think we were all happy with the outcome.

Funny how the stars align themselves – on that day, I certainly would have never thought that one day the Kramers and I would be collaborating on an event group, office space and a warehouse.  They are very dear friends of mine and I get to work with them too.

Here’s to you two – four years down the road, looking better then ever and getting happier by the day.  I was honored to be a part of your day and even more honored to know and love you as my friends and colleagues!

Bouquet Study: aubergine purple

I love to call them midnight purple tulips – they are exquisite, delicate, dark beauties.  They mix well with shades of purple, lavender and my favorite: green!  The darkness adds wonderful dimension to a bouquet that is tonally one dimensional.  One of my favorite combinations is dark schwartzwalder calla lilies mixed with the tulips of the same color.

Chloe Murdoch of Mike Larson Inc. recently shot these photos of one of our bridal bouquets.
